Last Sunday my daughter and I were home spending the day together. We didn't have anything going on so I decided to make her a dollhouse.
I started with a 24 inch deep Lowe's moving box. I cut the box in half leaving the bottom and top of the box in tact. This way I could seal up the bottom of the box and use it as the back wall of the dollhouse.
Also using a 24 inch deep box and cutting it in half left me with a 12 inch deep dollhouse, which is perfect for the 12 inch by 12 inch fancy card stock stacks.
Next step was to measure the remaining pieces of cardboard that I had and cut them so I can add a first and second floor and a divider wall down the middle.
I cut tabs in the second floor flooring and notches in each side of the box. This way I could insert the tabs into the notches for added stability. I then taped them down using packing tape.
Once I had the 2nd floor and divider wall in, I added a pitched roof to create an attic space.
I then took it outside and sprayed a coat of primer on it.
Once I had the doorways and windows cut out, and completed the modification to add the bathroom, I decorated the whole thing with fancy card stock.
I even added pretty printed paper to the floors to be area rugs.
Most of the paper was from Stampin Up and Crate Paper
I had originally designed the bathroom to be upstairs, between the two bedrooms. My 3 1/2-year-old daughter decided that she liked the bathroom as a walk-in closet better, and turned the 2nd bedroom into a giant (nursery themed) bathroom. Oh well, whatever keeps her busy.
I was lucky enough to have several types of wood plank and woodgrain paper to use as the flooring.
I put the shabby chic distressed wood flooring in the attic.
I added a very pretty piece from Stampin' Up to the outside of the house.
And fun times were had by all!
